It seemed unlikely, but a C-17 was NOTAM'd to visit small, private, Eshott Airfield. Inside infomation said no, but I took a punt on going up anyway. Boy did it pay off.
The RAF C-17 Globemaster III came in over the airfield on a simulated approach, while at the same time an RAF Chinook came in fast underneath with ramp down ready, landed for a couple of minutes then departed fast.
I don't know for sure, but appears that they were simulating the C-17 dropping troops off at a dangerous location while at the same time the Chinook came in to pick them up.
Well worth the drive... even with the heat shield being dislodged from my car by the rough track!
